Week One:

December 21-23

12 - 1 PM CST
Edible Science Experiments

$25 + Materials (Estimated $8)

Students will explore a range of science topics, ultimately resulting in edible creations!

Required Materials:

  • 1 pack of gummy bears (aim for ~40-50 bears

  • ~20 wooden kebab skewers

  • 1 roll of wide masking tape (or other sticky, thick tape)

  • 1 pack of oreos

  • 2 packs of skittles (in particular, red, yellow, and blue skittles [primary colors]

  • 1 white ceramic or plastic plate (or a clear plastic/ceramic plate + 1 piece of printer paper)

  • 2 chairs

Holiday Crafts 

$25 + Materials (Estimated $8)

1 - 2 PM CST

Students will make three different holiday themed crafts!

Required Materials:

  • 8 pieces of constructions paper. I particular:

    • 2 white sheets

    • 2 red sheets

    • 2 brown/tan sheets

    • 2 black sheet2

  • 1 pack of colorful popsicle sticks (minimum 9 needed)

  • 1 pack of craft pompoms

  • 1 spool of twine

  • 1 paper plate

  • 1 spool of ribbon (optional)

  • 1 pack of assorted tissue paper (2-3 colors minimum)

  • 1 pair of scissors

  • 1 pack of markers

  • 1 bottle of liquid glue (liquid specifically required for some crafts)

  • 1 writing utensil

Book Club / Story Writing

$25 + Materials (Estimated $8)

2 - 3 PM CST

Students will learn about storytelling, including key story components and how to write stories of their own!​

Required Materials:

  • A notebook

  • Writing utensils

  • Book club book: The Chocolate Touch [by Patrick Skene Catling]

Week Two:

December 28-30

12 - 1 PM CST
Painting

$25 + Materials (Estimated $10)

Students will learn the basics of color theory and apply them to their creations using a varitey of application materials.

Required Materials:

  • 5 paint colors (White, Black, Red, Blue, Yellow)

  • 1 paintbrush minimum (recommended two sizes)

  • 1 plastic plate/paint palette

  • 1 paint canvas

  • 1 wooden cutout (to be painted)

  • 1 ceramic mug/figurine

  • 1 cup (for water while painting)

1 - 2 PM CST
Journalism

$25 (No Materials Required)

Students will explore the basics of journalism as they work to research, write about, and publish their own work via a digital newsletter that will be sent to their families.

Public Speaking

$25 (No Materials Required)

2 - 3 PM CST

Students will learn the basics of persuasion, communication, and healthy vocalization skills! They will explore key public speaking concepts as they perform a series of exercises, including tongue twisters, for example. Students will also be given the opportunity to develop their own PowerPoint presentations.

Week Three:

january 4-8

Photography

$30 + Materials (Estimated $25)

Students will learn the basics of photography and photo editing through this introductory course. They will be given the opportunity to explore the theory behind this art form and apply it first-hand.​

Required Materials:

  • Digital camera

Architecture and STEM Topics

$30 + Materials (Estimated $15)

1 - 2 PM CST

Students will explore the basics of journalism as they work to research, write about, and publish their own work via a digital newsletter that will be sent to their families.

Required Materials:

  • 20 sheets of printer paper

  • 5 sheets of assorted construction paper

  • 1 pack of Jenga blocks (stacking wooden blocks)

  • 1 pair of scissors

  • 1 bottle of glue (or 2 glue sticks)

  • Writing utensils

  • Drawing utensils

Theatre

$30 (No Materials Required)

2 - 3 PM CST

Students will practice and gain acting skills as they participate in a retelling of a popular children's tale. The performance will be recording on the final day of the class and will be sent to students' families.
